Scholarships & funding - Admissions - Virginia Commonwealth University

Scholarships are funds that are awarded to students to use toward their education, and don’t need to be repaid. Some scholarships and funding opportunities are given based on merit (academic achievement), some are based on need, and some are awarded for athletics and other skills.

First-year student scholarships

VCU considers all outstanding first-year applicants for university-level scholarships if you apply for the fall semester by Nov. 1.

Transfer student scholarships

The university awards a limited number of scholarships to transfer applicants from the Virginia Community College System who have earned a minimum of 45 semester credit hours.

Out-of-state student scholarships

If you’re an out-of-state, first-year student, you might qualify for a four-year, merit-based scholarship.

School and department scholarships

VCU schools and departments manage and offer their own scholarships to incoming first-year and transfer students, as well as current students.
